(antz/humas)

KADEMANGAN – It is quietly possible that this December Probolinggo city will experience inflation. This was revealed at a meeting of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) held at Bromo View Hotel in Probolinggo City on Thursday (12/27).

Inflation is triggered by rising prices of various commodities, such as chicken meat, cayenne pepper, and land transportation rates due to the large number of people traveling on vacation. This was revealed by the Head of Distribution section of Probolinggo City’s Statistic Centre, M. Machsus. “This December is likely to be relatively high, coinciding with the Christmas and New Year holidays, and some commodities have experienced increasing prices,” Machsus said.

According to Agung, staff Agriculture and Food Security Agency, in addition to the prohibition of slaughtering chickens before 40 days after administration of the drug, the inflation is raising due to the increase in broiler feed prices. “Prices have gone up since price of feed has risen, and of course distributors are also raising prices, because chickens in Probolinggo City mostly come from Jember and surrounding areas,” Agung said.

He also explained the treatment of broilers and laying hens differently. “If laying hens can still be mixed with corn, broilers cannot be,” he added. But, still said Agung, all are still relatively stable, both in terms of supply and prices. The price of chicken is around IDR 46-48 thousand per kilogram.

For rice supplies, state-owned logistics company Bulog representatives assured that rice stocks are still safe for the next six months. “There are still around 14 thousand tons, and of course the stock is enough until the next harvest season,” he said.

Acting head of Malang’s Bank Indonesia Representative, Jaka Setyawan said that inflation in East Java was still below the national inflation target set at 3.5 percent with a tolerance of approximately 1 percent. “There are four focuses of regional inflation control including supply availability, smooth distribution, affordability of prices and effective communication between related parties,” he said.

Mayor Rukmini is very grateful to all parties who have collaborated with Probolinggo Municipality who have carried out all efforts and various activities in order to stabilize the inflation rate in this city. “This inflation control program is an effort to stabilize the prices of goods and services in the community in order to improve living standards amid the current economic conditions,” she said.

Head of the Economic Administration Department, Wawan Soegyantono, said that this meeting was indeed aimed at increasing the cooperation and coordination of the regional working units in order to reduce inflation. “And also to monitor the increase of commodities so that they can determine the policy,” he said.
