For about 90 minutes, elementary-school level Diksun Mama (Kid Detective who Monitor the River Together) participants conducted observations at the Ardi water source, in Wonoasih District, Tuesday (16/4). This stage is a step towards the final of Diksun Mama at the UPT Environmental Laboratory, Environmental Agency, Probolinggo City.

At the location, as many as 10 participants from a number of SD / MI held bio-assessments with a scoring system calculating the biota in the river. The technique used in this observation is jabbing (looking for biota on the banks of rivers), kicking (stirring up the contents of the river) and scrubbing (brushing rocks).

“From the bio-assessment carried out, it can be known whether the river is lightly contaminated or moderately polluted. Then the results are contained in the comic street using children’s language, “said Head of UPT Environmental Laboratory Sri Wulandari.

The concept of street comics was chosen by the committee because it was more interesting since the participants were elementary school level. “So it’s different because if we use the papers for elementary level, it would be rather heavy. Street comics are just photos of activities arranged like comics,” he added.

The conclusion from the monitoring at Ardi water source, Sri Wulandari continued, many people used the river for daily needs such as bathing and washing clothes.

“The use of river water can reduce the quality of the river water itself. “The participants have also given a warning to the people around, providing education if using water in the river is not good for health, of course,” said Sri Wulandari again.

The head of the Laboratory UPT also admitted that she was very satisfied with the results of the observation at the elementary-school level. Although they are still at the elementary school level, they can monitor the river in detail and create independence and environmental care.

After this stage, the participants from both elementary and junior high school level will go to the final. If the elementary school is in the form of street comics, junior and high school make a report in the form of video reporting before being presented to the jury. “Junior and high schools are free to observe which river, as long as they are still around Probolinggo City,” added Sri Wulandari.
