MAYANGAN – Sebanyak 35 atlet catur yang tergabung dalam Persatuan Catur Seluruh Indonesia (Percasi) Kota Probolinggo akan berjuang dalam Kejurprov Jawa Timur di Tulungagung. Rabu (12/6) siang, Wali Kota Hadi Zainal Abidin memberangkatkan atlet catur andalan Kota Bayuangga itu.

Kejurprov Jatim sendiri digelar mulai 12 sampai 16 Juni 2019.

(famydecta/humas)

35 Chess athletes who are members of the Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) of Probolinggo City are set to do battle in the East Java Tournament in Tulungagung. Mayor Hadi Zainal Abidin has set the athletes off, Wednesday (12/6) afternoon.

The tournament is held from 12 to 16 June 2019. Chairman of Probolinggo City’s Percasi, M Abas said that those who fight in the tournament are the city’s mainstays of chess. “The 35 athletes who departed are 26 of them juniors and 9 senior athletes,” he said.

The departure of the athletes was carried out in the hall of Mayangan Sub-district office. They were lined up in front of the mayor. The mayor, popularly known as Habib Hadi, was immediately surprised to find out that there was the youngest chess athlete taking part in the tournament in class G (the lowest class).

“What’s her name? Masyaallah, I’m proud of myself. A kid who can play chess,” said Habib Hadi, calling the youngest chess athlete.

She was 4-year-old Alisa Ardenia. She is still in PAUD (Early Childhood Education) school. Alisa immediately went forward and sat in the lap of Habib Hadi, the number one person in the city.

Alisa and her two sisters are chess athletes. They are Aubry Atalia, 5th-grade elementary school and Audry Queena.

“She (Alisa) made her sisters as role models and wants to learn chess. I did hire a coach soon after I learned that my children, who are all women, love chess. We hope they can become WGD (Women Grand Masters) at the Asian level,” said Nisa, the mother of the three chess athletes who live on Jalan Cokroaminoto.

In his brief speech, Mayor Habib Hadi encouraged the athletes in facing the tournament. “Don’t be rash, don’t be afraid. Enjoy it as much as possible so you can do the best,” he said.

The mayor also asked the city’s National Sports Council (KONI) to pay attention to the needs of the sports in the city. For example, if there is something that must be met by KONI, then it must be considered so that they can practice and get enough budgets.

“I am sure all can face the tournament well in Tulungagung. Don’t be nervous, we’re not targeting 1st place at the moment, but slowly the ending will reach its peak. My message, you all will make the city proud if you get the achievement in the tournament,” said Habib Hadi.
