(famydecta/humas)

MAYANGAN – Tuesday (5/6) morning, Probolinggo Mayor Rukmini had a sudden inspection (sidak) on food in the form of beef and chicken in two big markets including Pasar Baru and Wonoasih Market.

As a result, it was found that one trader sells non-edible beef based on the test results. “It was found that there was one trader in Pasar Baru whose meat quality was not good,” said Mayor Rukmini.

This finding is known after a rapid test of the quality of animal origin using eber reagents (rot test) and pH Strip (meat quality test).

In a normal conditions, an edible beef should contain pH around 5,6-6. Well, the findings on the market, the meat reaches pH above 7. “This (pH 7) is not good for consumption, and when it is being tested, it contains of mist even though there is no gas. It is estimated that the meat was three days ago. We take the meat directly and give a warning to the merchants,” added Retno Wandansari, Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Probolinggo City.

In that inspection, the mayor was accompanied by Secretary Bambang Dr Agus, Head of the Agriculture and Food Security Department Sukarning Yuliastuti, Head of the Satpol PP Office Sudiman and the team from the Probolinggo City Police Station and other relevant agencies.

Starting at 5:30 a.m., the inspection starts at a number of beef and chicken traders in Pasar Baru. To the traders being inspected, Rukmini asked them to give their meat as a sample to be tested.

Rukmini also made a complaint to traders who used black plastic-bags as packaging. She then asked them to replace it with a white plastic-bag that is safer for food.

In Pasar Baru, the price of chicken meat per kilogram is worth IDR 38,000, while beef is IDR 110,000 per kilogram. “Hopefully all the merchandise will be in demand, get a lot of money,” said Rukmini to the traders she met.

Done in Pasar Baru, the team led by Mayor Rukmini left for Wonoasih Market. There are not as many beef and chicken traders as they were in the market before. It didn’t take long for the group to be there.

Besides, there are no problematic meat ingredients found in the market in the southern region of Probolinggo City. However, the price of chicken tends to be cheaper than Pasar Baru, which is IDR 37,000 per kilogram.

“Alhamdulillah, overall, there is no bad-quality meat found. The price is still stable until mid-Ramadan. Related to beef supply, it is still safe and does not need supplies from other cities. But we still need supply of chicken from other cities,” said Rukmini.

With the finding of one trader who sells non-edible meat, continued the mayor, she appealed the public to be more careful in buying meat. “Hopefully people can choose good meat. Be alert if the meat looks discolored and not fresh. But overall the quality of animal origin materials sold in Probolinggo city deserve to be circulated and consumed,” said the city’s first female-mayor.

The head of the Agriculture and Food Security Agency, Sukarning Yuliastuti, said that before Eid Mubarak, the health team of veterinary community routinely surveyed materials from animals (meat and eggs) to the market to conduct direct guidance, monitoring and supervision.

“Because the demand for materials from animals is increasing than usual. Therefore, there is a need for inspection to avoid irregularities by irresponsible individuals,” she said.

It is known, beef comes from  Animal Slaughterhouses (RPH) as much as 1,500 kg, from other cities as much as 500 kg. While the chicken meat traded is as much as 5.5 tons which comes from Probolinggo city. “In the city, there are 6 slaughterhouses, the traders are around 15. Meanwhile, the chicken traders can be more than 50,” Retno added.
