Laju inflasi (kenaikan harga) tahun kalender bulan Januari s/d September 2018 Kota Probolinggo mengalami inflasi 0,90 persen, sedangkan laju inflasi year on year (September 2018 terhadap September 2017) Kota Probolinggo sebesar 1,70 persen.

(mita/humas)

MAYANGAN – Probolinggo city has been generally experienced deflation (decline in prices) of 0.32 percent in September 2018. Deflation occurred because of 7 (seven) expenditure groups, namely, 3 (three) groups experienced deflation, 2 (two) groups experienced inflation and 2 (two) groups did not change.

During the inflation release on Thursday (11/10), at Radio Suara Kota, the head of Distribution of Statistic Centre (BPS) Moch Machsus stated that commodities that contributed the most to deflation were chicken meat, vegetable tomatoes, beef, free-range chicken meat, cooking oil, red chili , ground coffee, watermelon, granulated sugar, shallots. And, commodities that make the biggest contribution to inflation are oranges, chicken nuggets, gold jewelry, raw tofu, potatoes, garlic, cars, filtered clove cigarettes, milk for toddlers, tempeh.

“From several cities in East Java which became the National City of Consumer Price Index (CPI), 5 (five) cities experienced deflation. The smallest deflation occurred in Jember Regency by 0.05 percent, followed by Madiun City by 0.12 percent, Malang City by 0.31 percent, City of Probolinggo by 0.32 percent and Banyuwangi Regency by 0.49 percent,” Machsus added.

Started from January to September 2018, Probolinggo City experienced inflation of 0.90 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (September 2018 to September 2017) in Probolinggo city was 1.70 percent.

Head of Economic Administration Division, Wawan Soegyantono, said that Probolinggo Municipality continues to try to control inflatio. However there are some things that experience deflation, namely for commodity prices of tomatoes experiencing a decline in prices. The intended effort is to conduct dissemination, training and guidance development to farmer groups so that the product can add economic value. “In a deflationary position, we better be wiser in consumption and not overdo it,” he added.

Representative of Bank Indonesia of Malang, Yon Widiyono greatly appreciated the Probolinggo City’s team of inflation control (TPID) because during 2018, the achievement of inflation was relatively low and under control. “But, indeed we heard there was a problem in the last 2 (two) months of deflation, namely the price of goods experienced by farmers fell. We also heard about the efforts made by the Probolinggo Municipality, namely to carry out down streaming, to make agricultural products and distribute products to industries that need them,” Yon said.

Besides that, Yon also explained that usually if the price of agricultural goods dropped, it happened because of the excessive supply if the demand was fixed, or if the supply remained, but the demand dropped then the price also went down.

Proposals submitted to the municipal government, commodity vegetables, maybe starting from now can be set a planting pattern, so later it can be educated to farmers. So, farmers can plan when to start planting so that farmers get high enough yields.

“People always shop wisely and smartly, that is, if there is a price surge in the product they want to buy, then it is replaced with another product with the same use. This is an automatic price stabilizer,” he hoped.
